A Little Lonely Star

One million and one stars
all paired up in twos,
leaving one left alone
with nothing to do.

They became planets,
starscapes, eclipses, and moons.
While one little light
became a bigger wound.
Reminding fourteen billion eyes
from its brilliant height,
despite your plight,
they'll always be
a gleaming light —
a delightful sight —
waiting in the sky
for all the little lonely stars
left alone at night.
